According to a report, the wife of the missing CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush, is a descendant of two people who perished on the Titanic.
According to The New York Times, Wendy Rush, who works as the head of communications for OceanGate, is the great-great-grandchild of Isidor and Ida Straus, who were passengers on the Titanic.
First-class passenger Isidor Straus refused to accept a seat in a lifeboat when there were still women and children waiting to get off the sinking ship. He was joined by his wife Ida, who would not leave his side at any point during the ordeal.
The publication reports that the pair, who were among the wealthiest passengers on board, could be seen standing arm-in-arm on the deck of the liner as it sank.
The final resting place of the RMS Titanic may be discovered in the North Atlantic Ocean, roughly 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. In 1912, it went down, taking with it about 1,500 lives of those who were on board. It is located at 41°43’32” North and 49°56’49” West. 1985 marked the year that the wreckage was found, and in 2012 it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
According to the Times, Mr. Straus was born in 1845 and was a co-owner of the Macy’s department store during his lifetime.
In the film Titanic, directed by James Cameron in 1997, there was a scene depicting an older couple holding each other in bed as the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean surged around their cabin. This scene was a fictionalized version of the true story of the pair.
According to the archives of this newspaper, Mr. Straus’s body was discovered in the water a few weeks after the sinking of the Titanic, but the bones of his wife were never found.
Along with the British millionaire adventurer Hamish Harding, the renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Mr. Rush, the Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, who is 19 years old, have been reported missing.
On Sunday morning, the Titan sub made the initial descent into the Atlantic Ocean to begin its voyage to the wreck site, which is located at a depth of 12,500.
After what seemed like an eternity and a half, the Titan finally lost communication with its surface ship, the Polar Prince. A supply of oxygen sufficient for a period of four days is carried aboard the Titan. According to the officials, a Canadian aircraft that was taking part in the search heard periodic “banging” noises coming from the general vicinity of its most recent known location. Mr. Dawood and his son, who are both British citizens, are members of a renowned Pakistani family that has assets in the country’s agriculture and industries. Both Mr. Dawood and his son hold British citizenship.
