David Kunkle Obituary, Death –  According to Sarah Dodd, the former chief of police in Dallas, David Kunkle, has gone away in a calm and serene manner. Over the past few years, the individual who was 72 years old had been struggling with Lewy body dementia. Eddie Garcia, the current Chief of the Dallas Police Department, commented on the loss of Chief Kunkle by saying, “I had the honor of meeting Chief Kunkle the week that I arrived in Dallas.” He established a precedent, which sets an extremely high standard for future leaders of this organization to meet.

The year 1972 marked the beginning of Kunkle’s “storied and impactful career” at DPD. After that, he was the chief of police for the city of Grand Prairie, and then he was the chief of police for the Arlington Police Department from 1985 to 1999. His career came full circle when he returned to the DPD in 2004, and he served there until his retirement in 2010.

An official statement from the Arlington Police Department stated as follows: “It is with great sadness and profound respect that we join the DFW community in mourning the loss of a remarkable man and public servant.” “When he and his family came to visit us in 2021 to gift some of his personal things, including his old badges, to the department, we felt an incredible sense of gratitude and pride. These significant artifacts from APD’s past will assist us in continuing to tell his narrative and honor his legacy for many years to come.
