Howard Strickland Obituary, Death – The loss of Howard Lewis Strickland, who was 69 years old and a resident of Tyro, Virginia, and the son of the late Howard Parrish Strickland and Laura Lawhorne Strickland, occurred on July 13, 2023. He was the devoted husband of Linda Joyce Strickland (nee Campbell); the loving uncle of Laura Campbell Goodman (Ray) and Jason Richard Carr; the adoring great-grand uncle of Grayson Goodman; the devoted brother-in-law of Christine Campbell Carr and the late Leonard R. Carr; and he is survived by a large number of loving extended family members and friends.
He passed away on January 15, 2019. Howard was a well-liked and respected member of the community who frequently entertained others with his well-pitched voice, guitar, and banjo. Howard also had a passion for music. He frequently performed his music at gatherings with his doting mother Laura, as well as in churches located all across Nelson County. His devotion to his nation and its flag earned him a career in the United States Army Reserves spanning 17 years, and he continues to stay in touch with the friends he made throughout his time in the armed forces.
Because he was a mechanic by trade, his neighbors frequently relied on his expertise to keep them driving legally and working in their fields. Everyone will be saddened by his passing. On Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m., the Rose Union Baptist Church located at 955 Tye Brook Hwy. in Piney River, Virginia 22964 will host a memorial service honoring the life of Howard. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jim Hardwick. Relatives and friends are encouraged to attend.
Linda would like to express her gratitude to everyone for their support over the years. The encouragement and love that Howard and Linda received from others gave purpose to their lives. In addition, Linda and the family would like to express their gratitude to the medical staff at UVA Cardiology & Transplant as well as the staff at the 4 East/CCU care teams.
