James Joseph Death, Obituary – On July 11, 2023, at the age of 88, he passed away in a calm and serene manner while he was surrounded by his devoted family. Survived by his one true love Rita for almost 65 years, and by his beloved children Lynn (married to Paul Bailey), Michael, Daniel (who passed away when he was an infant), Darlene (married to Jim Figueroa), and Sue (married to Scott Burrell).
Great grandfather to Eleanore and Deacon, and proud grandfather to Matthew, Daniel, Nicholas (Caitlin), Alana (Dan), Cheyanne, Mitch, Mark, Noah, and Natalie. Also, proud great grandfather to Eleanore. Beloved brother to Cora, Peter, Anne, Bernadette, and Judy; Leo, Helena, Marie, Nick, Gerry, and Frank were among his siblings who died before him.
Jim Vandervoort was the tenth of thirteen children to be born to Anna and Peter Vandervoort. He was born on December 11th, 1934. He was a dedicated soldier who served his nation for a total of twenty years in the Canadian Armed Forces, including a tour of duty in Vietnam that lasted one year.
He pursued his dream of establishing a prosperous business in the transportation industry under his own name. As a skilled handyman, he put his abilities to use in a variety of trades, including construction, stonework, and woodworking, to mention a few. Jim was a devout follower of the Catholic faith and a dedicated volunteer.
He assisted at the local church and food bank whenever he had the opportunity. After they retired, he and Rita spent a lot of their time traveling, going on cruises and exploring many other locations throughout the world. But his cabin was by far the most charming of those locations. Jim found the greatest satisfaction in spending time by the lake with his family, taking in the beauty of God’s creation.
To him, this meant everything in the world. On Monday, July 17, the Drury Funeral Centre will be open from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm for visitation. On Tuesday, July 18, at 11 o’clock in the morning, a Christian burial service will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Alliston. If you so wish, memorial contributions can be made to Stevenson Memorial Hospital or Matthews House Hospice. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Because of the extraordinary care and compassion that they received at Matthews House Hospice, our family would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the entire personnel there, both paid and volunteer.
