Laura Smith Obituary, Death – On July 12, 2023, in a straightforward manner, Laura Etta Smith, who was 92 years old and from Lebanon, died away in the Loretto Motherhouse. She was a resident of Lebanon.She was born on May 27th, 1931 in Lebanon, Kentucky to the late Robert Henry Whitlock and Carrie Mae Whitlock. Her parents have now passed away. Since then, none of her parents has survived to this day. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Saint Augustine Catholic Church for a good number of years and was very active there. Her husband, Richard Lee “Strike” Smith, as well as her parents Almarine Hickey,
Conway Whitlock, Jimmy Whitlock, Marcella Long, and Delores Ann Whitlock, all went away before she did. Her siblings Almarine Hickey, Jimmy Whitlock, and Marcella Long also died before she did. In addition to her, her grandson Jake Maggard was taken from her before she passed away. Her surviving family members are as follows: her two sons, Dr. Bob (Margaret) Smith, DMD of Lebanon, and Dr. Ben (Lyle) Smith DMD of Springfield; her three daughters, Carol (Tracy) Farmer of Midway, Janie (Bob) McQueen of Louisville, and Laurie (Paul) Maggard of Atlanta; and her brother, Robert Henry (Nancy) Whitlock, Jr. of Clearwater, Florida.
In addition, thirteen of their grandchildren and nine of their great-grandchildren are still alive and well today.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in memory of the individual who passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., and it will take place at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Following the conclusion of the funeral service, the burial will take place at the Lebanon National Cemetery. The wake and visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Monday,
July 17, 2023, commencing at 9:00 a.m. and continuing up to the time of the service. This event will take place on the Monday. Henry Smith, Benjamin Smith, Robert McQueen, Richard McQueen, Tyler McQueen, Will Maggard, and Mark Maggard are the persons who have given their services as pallbearers. During this memorial service, Hilda Powell, The Los Mariachis Group, and Tommy Downs will act as honorary bearers of the pall.
