Madelyn Bruno Obituary, Death – Madelyn T. Bruno, a much-loved mother and grandmother, left this world on April 10, 2023, at the age of 77, in the residence she shared with her daughter Denise. Madelyn was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to her parents Joseph and Petita Freitas. Madelyn spent her childhood in Somerville, Massachusetts, with her family. Madelyn enjoyed and was talented in the field of cosmetology. Madelyn received her diploma from cosmetology school following her graduation from Somerville High School. She then started her work in Boston at a salon called “Wigs-n-Things.”
She continued her schooling into the field of men’s hair replacement, where she eventually became an expert in the field. She even provided her services as a stylist to a few celebrities and taught other stylists how to do their jobs. After some time, Madelyn established her own company, which she named “Hair by Bruno,” and it was situated in Billerica. Madelyn took advantage of her retirement years to pursue her newfound passion of working as a nanny for a number of young families, all the while devoting her undivided attention to the upbringing and well-being of her one and only grandchild.
Madelyn enjoyed the time she got to spend with her family and friends, as well as sewing, gardening, reading, and going on boat rides when she wasn’t working at the salon. Karaoke was a fun hobby for her, and some of her favorite singers to imitate are Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, and Connie Francis, to name a few. Madelyn’s Aunt Adeline taught her how to sew when she was a little girl, and she went on to become a skilled seamstress who dressed her small children in adorable outfits she had made herself. In later years, Madelyn and her close friend Judy turned their passion for sewing into a successful business that produced elegant window coverings.
Madelyn eventually realized that one of her favorite hobbies was exploring new places. She counted her blessings that she had been able to go on eight consecutive cruises and see places as diverse as Europe, Canada, and other warmer locales such as the Caribbean Islands. Madelyn and her companion Donald also liked the time they spent at their cottage on Lake Winnisquam and their condo on Sanibel Island in Florida. Both of these locations are in the state of Florida.
Madelyn has a generous spirit, a pleasant, outgoing personality, and a passion for giving to those in need. Madelyn had great pleasure in spending time with her granddaughter Denise’s family dogs, the late Benjamin, a Sheltie, and their current mixed breed rescue pup, Tiki, whom she shared her love for with her grandson Justin. She was a powerful, self-sufficient, and accomplished woman for her day; she was a single mother who brought up two children, opened her own enterprises, and bought the triple decker that had been in her family for many years as well as the Tewksbury home.
Madelyn was the devoted companion of Donald J. Bowers of Tewksbury, with whom she had shared her passion for travel, the lake, and Florida as well as their home in Tewksbury for more than 25 years. Madelyn passed away on April 1, 2019. She was the deeply loved mother of Denise Bruno-Matthews of Lexington, and the adored grandmother of Denise’s son, Justin Bruno, also of Lexington. Denise Bruno-Matthews and Justin Bruno both call Lexington home.
Her youngest daughter, Bonnie Bruno, who presently resides in Hollis, New Hampshire with her husband, Peggy Sheets, regards mom in the highest regard possible. Madelyn’s siblings are: Joseph Freitas of Quincy, Daniel Freitas of Newton, Theresa Freitas of Arlington, Nicholas Freitas of Arlington, and Christopher Freitas, who passed away. Christopher Freitas was born and raised in Arlington.
