Nancy A. Horton Death, Obituary – Arthur Edward and Mary Ellen (O’Neil) Brennan’s daughter Nancy (Nan) Horton was born in Burlington, Vermont on March 28, 1932. She attended Williston Schools, Mt. Saint Mary Academy, Cathedral High School in Burlington, Vt., and Fanny Allen Hospital School of Nursing.

She married Edward E. Horton, Jr. in Burlington Cathedral on December 27, 1954. They resided in Waco, Texas, Burlington, Vermont, Chappaqua, New York, Rochester, Minnesota, South Burlington, Vermont, and Essex Junction, Vermont throughout their 46-year marriage.
Nan nursed privately at Fanny Allen and Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospitals.

She quit nursing to raise her five children and be a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She helped others despite her own condition. Nan loved vacationing with her family, friends, and Ed. She loved “Overlake” in Malletts Bay, the family vacation camp.

Ceramics, gardening, cake decorating, paint-by-number, mystery novels, dogs, watching her backyard wildlife buddies, genealogy, and family history were her passions. She loved her “four musketeer” buddies’ activities. Family, friends, and neighbors will remember Nan’s kindness, hospitality, generosity, and strength.

Nan is survived by her five children: Edward E. (Ted) Horton III (Juliette), Kathleen J. Horton (Kevin Barry), Carolyn M. LaMothe (Brian), Mary E. Horton, and Sharon A. Horton (Dale Laflam); five grandchildren: Amanda Carr (Tyler), Adam Horton, John LaMothe (Amiee), Cory (Kayla Zehr), and Jessica Robinson (Okephief); five great-grandchildren.

Alexander and Helen Carr, Brynn and Landon LaMothe, and Zoja Robinson; sisters-in-law: Eleanor Clavelle, She left many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Nan was predeceased by her husband, Ed, brother James L. Brennan, sister Mary Patricia Shea, two sisters-in-law, Jane Horton and Elizabeth Yates, and four brothers-in-law, Michael J. Shea, J. Richard Yates, Raymond Clavelle, Sr., and Paul Horton.

The Residence at Quarry Hill, Home Care Assistance, and Home Instead workers were kind and supportive throughout Nan’s 5-year journey. Instead of flowers, donate to the Alzheimer’s Association or your favorite charity.

Monday, July 17, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Ready Funeral Home Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Dr., Essex Junction, will have visiting hours. Holy Family Church in Essex Junction will host a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 18, at 11:00 am. Resurrection Park Cemetery will follow.
