Peter Mcnamara Obituary, Wilton, CT Beloved Actuary Peter McNamara Remembered

Peter Mcnamara Obituary, Death – Peter Andrew McNamara, a beloved resident of Wilton, CT, passed away at the age of 41 on July 10, 2023. He had been battling an aggressive form of T-Cell Lymphoma and passed away peacefully at the New York Presbyterian/Weill-Cornell Medical Center, surrounded by his loving wife, Meredith, and close family members.

Peter was born on August 15, 1981, in Huntington, NY, to his parents John and Carolyn McNamara. He grew up in a loving household alongside his brother Stephen, sister Cathryn, and identical twin brother James, with whom he shared a special bond. They also shared their home with several cherished dogs and cats. Peter completed his education at Kings Park High School in 1999, where he actively participated in baseball and the marching band. Later, he attended Cornell University, where he proudly played the tenor saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble and earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Mathematics and Economics in 2003.

Following his graduation, Peter moved to New York City to begin his career as an actuary. During this time, he joined a co-ed softball team called The Bandits and spent many summer Sunday afternoons playing shortstop in Central Park with his closest friends. He achieved notable professional milestones, including becoming a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the Academy of Actuaries (MAA). Peter’s dedication and hard work led him to the position of Chief Reserving Actuary at Axis Capital, where he had been employed since 2010.

In 2006, while working at American International Group, Inc. (AIG), Peter met Meredith, the love of his life. They quickly fell in love and tied the knot in 2011 in Tallahassee, FL. Together, they built a beautiful life in New York City and were blessed with four daughters: Lillian Jane (10), Caroline Elizabeth (8), Emily Saralynn (6), and Eleanor Louise (4). They eventually settled in Wilton, CT, where Peter dedicated himself to being a kind, dependable, and fun-loving father. He took immense pride and joy in his family, and his love for his wife and daughters was evident to everyone who knew him.

Peter is survived by his wife, Meredith Brown McNamara, and their children, as well as his parents, John Stephen and Carolyn Quinn McNamara, of Northport, NY. His surviving siblings include Stephen J. McNamara and his partner Diana Ning of New York, NY; Cathryn McNamara Brennan and her husband, Thomas J. Brennan of Wellesley, MA; and James M. McNamara and his wife Moyra Cassidy McNamara of Arlington, VA. He is also survived by his parents-in-law, Charles E. and Carol Jordan Brown of Tallahassee, FL, and his brother-in-law Michael C. Brown and his wife Angela Johnson Brown of Freeport, FL. Peter adored his six nieces and nephews: John, Thomas, and Daniel Brennan, and Bridget, Cormac, and Aengus McNamara. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stephen John and Adele Walsh McNamara, and his maternal grandparents, Alphonse Edward and Ann Kelly Quinn.

A visitation for Peter was held on Thursday, July 13th, from 5-8pm at Collins Funeral Home on 92 East Ave in Norwalk, CT, where his family welcomed loved ones. A funeral service to celebrate Peter’s life took place on Friday, July 14th, at 10am at Wilton Congregational Church on 70 Ridgefield Rd in Wilton, CT.
