Richard Brackett Death, Obituary – Richard A. Brackett, 85, of Fitzwilliam, passed away in the comfort of the Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. He was the son of the late Howard Brackett and Evelyn (Harper) Brackett, and he was born in Fitchburg on June 1, 1937. He attended Fitchburg High School and grew up in the town of Ashburnham, from which he graduated in 1955. He had been a resident of Fitzwilliam for the previous 17 years.
Rick was a master electrician who worked for himself for a number of years before taking a job at Cushing Academy. He remained employed there for a number of years up to the time that he retired. It was the Fitzwilliam Community Church that he went to. He was a passionate outdoorsman who cherished his time spent fishing, boating, and hunting.
He was a devoted follower of the Boston Red Sox as well as the Boston Bruins, in particular. Rick was known for his dry sense of humor and his devotion to his family, God, and country. He proudly displayed the American flag on his lapel or in a pin at all times. He appreciated a wide variety of musical genres and was quite inventive when working with wood or making things.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn S. (Parkhurst) Brackett; five children, Scott H. Brackett and wife Sandra of Zephyrhills, FL, Douglas Brackett and wife Lisa of Bellows Falls, VT, Barbara A. Brackett and husband Bruce of Rindge, NH, and Brian A. Brackett and significant other, Billie Jo Dennis of Gardner; eight grandchildren, Heather Medina, Christopher Brackett, Megan Smith, Nathan Lee Brackett, one of his brothers, passed away in 2004 before he did.
Funeral services will be performed at the New Cemetery in Ashburnham on the morning of Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 11 o’clock.
