Richard Sabatka Obituary, Funeral Notice – Richard “Rick” Sabatka, a beloved member of the Wahoo, NE community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the age of 65. Surrounded by his loving family, Rick left behind cherished memories and a lasting impact on those who knew him. He was born on September 1, 1957, in Wahoo, NE, to Adolph and Virginia Sabatka. Rick attended Bishop Neumann High School and graduated with fond memories of his alma mater.
On July 10, 1993, Rick exchanged vows with his loving wife, Susan Harlow, in Wahoo. Their enduring union of 30 years was filled with love, support, and shared adventures. Rick was a dedicated employee for the City of Wahoo Street Department, where he served for an impressive 38 years. His commitment to his work and his community earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends.
Beyond his professional achievements, Rick’s most significant joy in life came from his role as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his family, finding happiness in their presence. Rick is survived by his loving wife, Susan Sabatka, and their children: Mikayla (Jeff) Brabec, Jason (Christina) Harlow, and Alicia (Miles) Otte. His grandchildren, Callie and Jake Brabec, Scotty Scow, Emma, Lincoln, and Bailey Otte, brought him immense pride and joy.
In addition to his immediate family, Rick is also survived by his sister, Kathy Montgomery. They shared a special bond throughout their lives, offering each other unwavering support and companionship. Rick’s loss is deeply felt by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Virginia Sabatka, as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Jeanette Sabatka. Their memory will forever be cherished by those who loved them.
Rick had a zest for life and pursued his passions with enthusiasm. One of his favorite pastimes was flying R/C airplanes, which brought him a sense of freedom and exhilaration. Rick also had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs, who were his loyal companions throughout the years. His warm heart extended to all creatures, and he found solace and comfort in their presence.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life in honor of Rick at a later date, allowing loved ones to gather and remember the incredible person he was.
