The lengthy good-bye is the name given to this particular way of parting ways with someone. A brain that was decaying at an alarming rate was how a physician described the condition of the patient’s brain. The patient’s physical appearance shifts, and as their brain continues to deteriorate, they eventually forget the names of their loved ones and become less of themselves. Patients might, at some time in the course of their illness, get to the point where they are unable to walk, eat, drink, or communicate with the people they care about. They might also get to the point where they can no longer move from their bed.
There are some people who, since Alzheimer’s disease or dementia has not in any way damaged their lives, are going to scroll right past this message without giving it a second thought. These people are among the minority. They may not be able to understand what it is like to have a loved one who has fought or is fighting a struggle against Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. They may not have experienced it themselves. It’s possible that they haven’t been through it themselves.
It is highly likely that they have never been in a situation similar to that one before in their lives. If at least five of my friends would be willing to share this information on their respective personal timelines, it would be a huge help in bringing people’s attention to how serious this problem is, and I would be very grateful for it. If that’s the only option, count me in. I’ll take one.
