South Philly Shooting – A guy from Philadelphia has been found dead after trying to prevent three young men from stealing his automobile on Wednesday night, according to the police. Around 10:45 p.m., in South Philadelphia, the victim, who has been named by the police as Michael Salerno, 50, was attempting to prevent the carjacking of his vehicle, according to the police. Due to the continuing nature of the inquiry, the authorities chose not to reveal the identity of the woman who was in the vehicle.
According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, who spoke to media on Wednesday evening, “preliminary information appears that the motive for this homicide began with a carjacking of a female, and when the owner intervened, he was shot and killed,” The event took place on Porter Street, close to the intersection with South 12th Street. According to the police, Salerno had just arrived at the site, but he wasn’t in the car when the attempted carjacking occurred. The police declined to comment on whether or not the location was close to his residence.
At 10:53 p.m., a medical examiner pronounced Salerno dead at the site of the incident. According to the police, the fatal shot was fired at a rather close range. “The shell casing was just a few inches away from his head,” said Small. No arrests have been made. On Thursday afternoon, Lieutenant Hamilton Mashmond of the Philadelphia Police Department told reporters that police have obtained video from a number of surveillance cameras located around the street.
The words “Mr. Salerno is a victim that easily could be you, myself, or anyone else,” were spoken by Mashmond. “Each one of us has the ability to leave. Everyone has the right to enjoy their life, so why do some people feel the need to come up to other people loaded with firearms, seize their possessions, and then take their life? That is not acceptable.” According to Mashmond, the three suspects were last seen driving a tiny red Kia Soul with out-of-state license plates, and they were spotted reversing westbound on Porter Street before going southbound on 12th Street.
The suspects were young guys who seemed to be between the ages of 15 and the early 20s, and they were clothed in black attire, according to Mashmond’s description.
