(The 8th of July, 2023) MURFREESBORO, Tennessee The suspect in a shooting that resulted in the deaths of two people says that he was only defending himself when he opened fire on two guys who were abusing him as he was sitting in the backseat of a car in the drive-thru lane of a local fast-food restaurant. The suspect is 21 years old.

At one thirty three in the morning on July 8, officers responded to allegations of shots being fired at the Cook Out restaurant located on Memorial Boulevard. Tony Fuller, age 31, was found with a single gunshot wound when they found him. The staff from Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and gave him the official death pronouncement. Jacob Hawkins, his younger brother, was also wounded and rushed to the hospital, but he passed away shortly after arriving there. Jacob Hawkins was 18 years old.

According to the findings of the preliminary inquiry, Fuller and Hawkins made their initial approach to the automobile when it was parked at a McDonald’s drive-thru located on S. Rutherford Blvd. The person driving the automobile sped away from the scene in an effort to avoid them as swiftly as possible. When Fuller and Hawkins approached the car, the three guys immediately started arguing with each other.

While the 21-year-old victim was sitting in the backseat, his brothers began to physically abuse him. He alleges that he was acting in self-defense when he pulled out his revolver, shot, and hit both of them. The perpetrator of the shooting was one of the individuals that called 9-1-1 to report the shooting. It is yet unknown why the two people got into a disagreement, which then led to a deadly gunshot.

According to Lieutenant James Abbott of the Criminal Investigations Division’s Crimes Against Persons Unit, “There were several bystanders who didn’t know any of those involved who voluntarily told detectives what they witnessed, and some provided video.” “The witnesses’ account is consistent with the shooter’s claims and with the evidence we collected at the scene.” At this point, the person who shot the victim has not been charged with a crime while the investigation continues.
